Infinite Energy

The loneliness data is some of the most robust data in medicine.

It is no longer soft science.

Chronic loneliness increases all-cause mortality risk by roughly 26%. It elevates cortisol, suppresses immune function, accelerates cognitive decline, and drives inflammatory markers in ways that rival smoking fifteen cigarettes a day.

What We Talk About — and What We Don't

We talk about diet. We talk about exercise. We talk about sleep. We hand people lab results and medication protocols.

We rarely ask: who do you eat dinner with?

In nearly two decades of practice I have had the privilege of sitting with people in some of their most honest moments. People come in with all kinds of goals, and all of them are valid. Some name a number on the scale. Some name a feeling. Some are not sure yet how to say it.

What We Are All Really Reaching For

What I have noticed — and recognized in myself too — is that underneath the specific goal, we are all reaching for the same things.

  • To feel healthy and in control of our own bodies
  • To have real energy for the people we love
  • To need fewer medications
  • To move freely
  • To be present in our own lives
  • To belong somewhere
  • To give and receive love without holding back

These are not small desires. They are the whole point.

What the Body Actually Responds To

What I have come to understand, through the science and through the stories people have trusted me with, is that the body responds to all of it.

Not just the food and the exercise.

The connection. The belonging. The quality of our relationships and the safety we feel within them.

Love and belonging are not rewards for getting healthy.

They are part of what makes health possible.
