Most people think fasting is about what you give up — calories, snacks, meals.
But the real gift? The Pause.
That moment when you don't reach for food is more than willpower. It's a nervous system reset. It's your vagus nerve signaling your brain: "You're safe. You can rest. You can heal."
A 60-Second Vagus Nerve Reset
This is a protocol I teach across clinics, classrooms, and leadership retreats. One minute. Whole system shift.
- Hand on belly or heart. Ground yourself in your body.
- Take 3 slow breaths. Let your belly rise on the inhale and release on the exhale.
- Evoke a feeling of appreciation, joy, or safety. Don't just think it — feel it.
- Ask yourself: "What's present that I want to notice?"
This one-minute pause gives your body a break from constant survival mode and invites a shift into healing mode — even if only for a moment.
Not Just for Fasters
This protocol isn't exclusive to fasting. It's for anyone who is:
- Under stress
- Making important decisions
- Simply moving too fast
The biology doesn't care what triggered the pause. It only responds to the pause itself.
How do you create pause in your day? I'd love to hear what works for you.
